October and November merged together for my favorites these past four weeks, so I present to you my "Oct-ember Favorites".
With college applications quickly approaching I’ve been reaching towards the types of songs that completely occupy your mind or make your daunting tasks seem do-able.
Have You Ever Seen the Rain (song) - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Although this song is over 60 years old I find this song to be very helpful for me when I am overthinking my own life. “I wanna know/ have you ever seen the rain/ coming down on a sunny day?” Think about that. Rain comes from clouds, naturally this means it is not sunny when precipitation occurs. That being sad, I think we have all been caught in a torrential downpour on a sunny day without a cloud in the sky. It’s a weird situation to be in; maybe it’s even weirder than whatever you’re going through at the moment. If not, this song will still make you pause and forget about your personal problems, freeing you from the weight of your world for just a moment.
The Good Part (song) - AJR
If you know me or have read some of my past blog posts, you know AJR is my go-to for any mood I’m in. When I need a song that will provide me with reassurance and enough perseverance to make it through the day I listen to The Good Part. This song makes your current anxieties and stresses seem less daunting. This song is all about wanting to fast forward through the hard parts of your life, we all know good things take time but when you’re surrounded by successful friends and family it makes you question yourself. What are you doing? And what do you want? I’m not sure how one is supposed to tell when they’ve “made it”, but this song makes me believe we’ll know when we get there.
I’m Not Having Any Fun (song) - Bad Suns
It is impossible to listen to this song and not be happy. I’m Not Having Any Fun makes me embrace all the ridiculousness occurring in my life. Whether it’s having an F in my favorite class because I forgot to turn something in, being nine assignments behind in my easiest class, or getting in a fight with my mom over what shirt I’m going to wear for a zoom call, this song puts everything into perspective. No I may not be “having any fun” dealing with my own (semi-often) moments of forgetfulness, irresponsibility, and immaturity but like I said before - these are ridiculous things that can be fixed.
I hope you enjoyed reading, and listening to my favorite songs this month. We all have our moments, when you feel like beating yourself up over it think, “have you ever seen the rain”, remember soon you’ll be at “the good part” even if “you’re not having any fun” right now.
I hope you enjoyed my Oct-ember favorites.
Until next time,
thanks for yielding!
Alexis
