This past month I have found myself enjoying some of my first-favorite albums. I discovered these artists around 2017 and they were the first albums I truly felt I could never live without. Funnily enough, I did not stumble upon these on my own; my sister introduced me to each of these albums.
Vessel - Twenty One Pilots (2013)

I was pretty late to the game on this one, but better late than never. I personally love the metaphors in Tyler Joseph’s lyrics. They are simultaneously simplistic enough to easily understand and relate to, while also allowing the listener to think critically and analyze a deeper meaning. Some of my favorites include, “Semi-Automatic”, “Guns for Hands”, and “Migraine”. The message I gain from this album centers around internal battles. Everyone has demons, but it doesn’t matter what they are or how we got them. What matters is that we fight them, for ourselves and others.
The Click - AJR (2017)

AJR is probably my all time favorite band. I love that all their lyrics are completely straight forward (the exact opposite of why I love TOP’s lyrics). I think it is very difficult to write a song bluntly. I usually write songs with metaphors and symbols that people can relate to however they choose. Every song on this album is very different, but I find myself always coming back to a theme of self discovery and uniqueness when surrounded by conformity. My favorites on this album are probably “The Good Part”, “Three Thirty”, and “Overture”. AJR includes a song on their first and second album that is a mashup of all the songs on their album, and it is legendary. If you have not listened to AJR or taken the time to analyze and appreciate “Overture” I strongly recommend you take the time to do that. I promise you won’t regret it.

The Attractions of Youth - Barns Courtney (2017)
2017 was a pivotal year for my taste in music, and concluded with “Explosive, hypnotic anthems from the British Singer”. His album is named after his song, “The Attractions of Youth”, I find this album centers around exactly that: the novelties of being young. My favorite song on the album is “Little Boy”. This song speaks of the child we all have that lives inside us, and wanting to live up to the dreams we dreamt for our future self. I can't think of anything that encapsulates what it's like to be young quite like that song.
I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do,
until next time,
thanks for yielding!
